Morning Debriefing 6/11/11

1) LISTEN TO THIS NOW: Paul Scheer reading excerpts from Jim Belushi’s book “Real Men”
Day 4 - How to Fight w/ your Girlfriend by PaulScheer
2) If you still haven’t gotten Jen Kirkman’s latest release Hail To the Freaks
, check out some of reviews of at Punchline Magazine and Comedy Nerds United, not mention realize it’s a comedy album that made the Billboard charts. Why don’t you just do yourself a favor and go ahead and pick it up.
4) The Ultimate Free & Cheap LA Comedy List 6/12-6/18. Thanks Wisepix.
5)

Not to discourage anyone from doing open mics, but sometimes you to just power through it, no matter what’s happening. This picture above of hilarious comedienne Barbara Gray was taken during a live show at the Downtown LA Artwalk on Thurs. Here’s a recap from last night from another open mic, iCandy, that takes place in Long Beach every Friday that had the type of heckler that starts another show while the first show is still happening.
5) If you haven’t checked out any clips for the upcoming Comedy Central series “Jon Benjamin Has A Van”, you can now thank the Comedy Bureau later.

Morning Debriefing 6/8/11

1) Comedy Bureau favorite JAMES ADOMIAN will be on Lopez Tonight on TBS at MIDNIGHT. Watch live, set your DVR’s, OR check back here tomorrow as it will be posted.
2) Andrés Du Bouchet’s taping is tonight 10PM at Bar Lubitsch (7702 Santa Monica Blvd., West Hollywood, CA). This is a perfect part to be a part of comedy history/catch his one-of-a-kind absurdist stand-up/laugh until it hurts and then finding a way to laugh some more.

3) Thai Rivera will be debuting his new self-titled album at the Ontario Improv (4555 Mills Circle, Ontario, CA) next Thurs. June 16th 8PM. Thai’s proof that grinding it out at open mics, no matter where they are or how they are, can, through tireless hard work pays off and does so on your own terms (i.e. headlining your own show to release your own CD).
4) Melissa Villasenor auditions at America’s Got Talent. She gives that show’s name validation. Seriously. I first saw her an indie, topic based, comedy show a year ago, and only a month or so ago, she got passed at the Comedy Store as a regular, and now, this. Congratulations and hopefully she’ll leave Forever 21 soon.
5) Secret comedy show at the Comedy Brewery w/Michelle Buteau. E-mail comedybrewery@gmail.com for details. The only thing we know is that it’s in downtown. It’s that secret.
6) Connected Comedy’s got a project for funny people with some crazy stories.
7) A Drink with Dave-Stephen Falk & Dava Krause.
TUE June 7: Stephen Falk from Brandon Walowitz on Vimeo.
WED June 8: Dava Krause from Brandon Walowitz on Vimeo.
8) “@GregProops-To everyone freaking out about the Reagan cartoon, laughing at what you disagree with is called being sophisticated.” Agreed.

I don’t really know. That’s how I get through it with not having an answer to that question and just doing it.

2) Lastly on June 13th The Comedy Store is proudly co-presenting the screening of “Tony Clifton Live on the Sunset Strip” at The Egyptian theater. 6) OK, as far as comedy flyers go, this is one of the best I’ve seen this year (anyone thinking about making a Five Guys spin off, don’t). Also, go see Powerviolence (the show this flyer is for) on Sundays. It’s unbridled fun.

7) Puddin’ “Enviroment”
8) Don’t bother with questioning. Of course you would love a summer camp run by comedian Barry Rothbart. So, watch the trailer for Barry Rothbart’s new series Sunshine.

Morning Debriefing 6/1/11

1) Due to underwhelming traffic, we, here at the Comedy Bureau, got the hint, so the Morning Debriefing is back (though it will probably never be posted in the official “morning”).
2) The Los Angeles Comedy Festival is accepting submissions for their 10th edition taking place this fall. More details to follow soon.
3) Check out comedy podcasting hub Earwolf’s new site! A fantastic thing got pretty damn fantastic!!!
4) Kyle Cease has a new video to push a self-help brand of comedy on his “Wake the Hell Up Comedy Tour” [via Punchline]. ”He’s doing something pretty new in comedy. He’s using it to get a point across.”-testimonial from girl who has obviously not watched Bill Hicks or any number of comedians. It’s only a matter of time until a parody comes out.
5) Brand new to Conan: The Pardo Patrol. Let’s hope this becomes an actual regular segment on Conan.
6) Behind the story of Camp Crystal Lake, you’ll find Tom McCaffrey, Barry Rothbart, Matt Fulchiron keeping the camp open despite Jason killing more people. This video should be the next installment/re-boot of the Jason franchise.
